My Travel Diary and Other Musings

As we were on an adventure (that I will write about soon), I mentioned to Dirk that I needed to do a travel journal, to which he remarked he thought that was what this blog was supposed to be about.  Yep, got me there.  I guess I just needed that reminder, so I will be doing some catch-up posts of other travel adventures we have had since living in Italy.

In other news, this poor blog has been neglected because I plain and simply do not know how to NOT be too busy.  I guess I have a bit of an over-achiever streak and internally feel like I am being lazy or unproductive if I am not constantly busy.  Given this, I have been busy with work, kids' stuff, co-teaching a bible study, and taking a free online MIT class on poverty reduction.  The class itself was the exact class they  are currently teaching at MIT and so it was rather time-consuming added on top of the other stuff, and the blog fell by the wayside.

Reality hit recently though when I had the stomach flu and was not able to take my weekly test for the MIT class.  I was initially stressed about it, but then I had an epiphany!  While I definitely want to continue to grow, learn, and improve myself, I finished my doctorate last year and should allow myself to take it easy.  So, I am "dropping" the free class and will watch lectures and/or read the class material when I would like, but I don't need to keep up and get a grade.  Seriously, what is wrong with me?!

In other news, we are less than 2 months away from our first, and perhaps only, visit back to the States while living here in Italy.  We are very excited about seeing family, friends and HARBOUR GRACE!!!!  The tickets were a small fortune and there is much to see here in Europe, so we will probably not visit again in 2014 due to vacation time, $$$$, and the fact that we have a couple of visitors coming in 2014!!!  (So EXCITED!)  As for 2015, we should be moving on to new territory then as Dirk should get new orders that year - very likely stateside somewhere.
